The CSR Initiatives
In 2004, HP listed out three priorities toward achieving its global citizenship goals. These were addressing electronic wastes, raising standards in HP's global supply chain and increasing access to information technology (IT).

The company planned to achieve reduction in electronic wastes through 'return and recycling' programs by reducing the number of raw materials and by eliminating the usage of toxic material in manufacturing products. HP extended its CSR initiatives across its supply chain. In 2004, the company developed the Electronic Industry Code of Conduct (EICC).
The EICC laid down standards to ensure respect and dignity and safe working conditions for the workers in the electronics supply chain industry. The code also required that the manufacturing processes in the industry be environment-friendly. HP formulated this code to ensure that its suppliers were complying with their social and environmental policy...

HP's Environmental Initiatives
According to HP's Environmental, Health and Safety Policy, the company sought to manufacture products that were safe, and minimized the use of energy and natural resources, and to enable recycling when the products were at the end of their life cycle.

To ensure that its Environmental, Health and Safety Policy were met, HP introduced the Design for Environment (DfE) program that focused on energy efficiency, innovations in the materials used and in designing products that could be recycled.
ENERGY EFFICIENCY
HP developed products that used energy efficiently thereby reducing their harmful impact on the environment. By developing such products, the company also helped customers save money.
